New Place, Meet Zach. Zach, Meet New Place
One thing I like about Zach is everything. Another, is when he visits me at the new place.
Last night we had a good two hours of exploring, going back and forth through rooms he had just visited, mumbling in kitty speak the whole time. Paul and Ty came over for Chinese food, so he had good company the whole time.
Then, he perched on the window sill as if that's all he'd ever known.

This is the current view as I drink my morning coffee and tippy-tappy on the keyboard.

Oh, and one thing I learned? I had feared he would try to climb up the chimney and it'd end in tears like poor Phoebe Cates' dad in Gremlins. He did no climbing, but his poking around in there (and looking up to the heavens) sure produced some dirty paws.

The solution?

Thanks again, Fresh Direct!

Bedroom Dancing
Well, I've done it. I bought the Parsons bed. There were many contenders, but I chose it for its minimal design / simplicity, height, and really I just like it. It gets delivered this Friday.
Soon I will stop sleeping like this:

Elements of Surprise
This weekend Kevin asked me what asked me what surprised me most about my new apartment.
Was there a flightpath overhead? A ghost in the walls? Flash flooding?
No, it was that when it rained really hard all day on Friday, the elements crept into my place.
And then, when you look up? You can see the Heavens.

I think it's going to be REALLY easy for Santa to come in this year!
While I was searching the internet for ways to have this fixed, I came across this youtube video of a Hummel figurine of a chimney sweep rescuing a cat. The internet, apparently, has everything.

Balloon Man
I sure haven't done the best job of blogging the past few days. Partly that's due to the spotty (yet free!) Internet I'm getting at my new place, and partly that's due to me watching that Bonnie Tyler video over and over again.
I thought I'd update everyone on my sleeping situation. Due to a Sears Mishap, I have moved in to my new place but my bed has not yet moved in with me. Keep everything crossed for me that the Simmons Diani Plus Queen Mattress arrives this Saturday, as most recently promised.
In the meantime, I'm surprisingly comfortable on my temporary bed, despite any objections my dear friend Phyllis might have made.

A Plus B Equals CRD
Today is the big day! I sure woke up wide awake today - in the loft bed - at 6am. It's like Christmas Morning! In a few hours all this will move about a mile and a half south to the new place.
The painters finished yesterday and I'm happy with the results. Sarah, who literally wrote the book on color, picked out the palette, and Joelle gave it her thumbs up.
I really like how everything turned out.

Keep all those fingers crossed for me!

In 2039, It'll Be All Mine!
Here are some exciting things to look at.
For example, the most expensive keys I have ever bought. As of today, I own 25% of them. In 30 years, I'll have paid off the bank and will own the rest!
After signing my name to one million documents, some chums accompanied me to my new place (after we ate hot dogs) for Champagne Celebration & Moving In Dreams.
Here we see me sitting where the couch will go, for maximum program watching. Wait, what's that behind me? Oh, A SEPARATE ROOM FOR THE BED TO GO IN. In real estate terms, we call this a "bedroom."
Kevin is posing with the fireplace and the kitchen island. I'm sure going to get nice stools to go with the island, so people can sit and watch me cook all my stews.
Here you can see Amber posing with the fireplace. The space behind her right shoulder is where the Programs will go.

Also? You can imagine my surprise when Amber pointed out you can see the Empire State Building from my living room.
I sure am happy to have such a new apartment, and friends to fill it up with.

Hello Again, Dolly!
This weekend brought even MORE packing.
I have now used up all the Fresh Direct boxes that have been re-gifted to me - 28 in total. Things look good too; I probably only need another five or six boxes to pull everything together, and the move is at least a week or two away.
Here's some more stuff I've found while choosing what to save and what to toss. If you know me at all, it won't surprise you that Dollywood is one of the places I've been to in my life.
Here's me at that grand place, in 1995:

That's easy to save, it's just a picture.
Save or not: 51 Dolly Parton Playing Cards? (save)
Save or not: Dolly Parton change purse? (Save).
I actually saved the change purse once before. In 1996 I was in Barcelona, traveling by myself. I was mugged by two rather bumbling teens with a flimsy, yet still scary, knife. They took my credit card, my cash, and my cigarettes. I actually asked them to give me back the purse, in my best broken Spanish. They did. I think this deserves space in one of the boxes. Gracias, Ladrones!

Me Times Three, For You To See
More items from the Pack Or Not Pack Debate.
Here's a horrible passport photo I ended up not using. Was it worth the extra $11 for new photos so I didn't have to stare at this for 10 years? Yes, yes it was.
Here's me smooching Stuart Little. I saw a screening of this movie with Gary shortly after college, and they had all sorts of giveaways for us, including these pics. Geena Davis was there to introduce the movie. She had just lost out in the 1998 Olympic Trials for Archery. Sorry Geena.
And finally, here's my college ID, which oddly enough had my SSN printed on it. They took these photos on moving in day, so I'm wearing a ponytail and am suitably flustered. Speaking of Gary, he used this as a fake ID while I was in Amsterdam. Sunrise, Sunset.
Lord only knows what else I'll stumble across as I pack.

Stuffs Like That There
Here's some more things I found when sorting what to pack and what to toss. Two-thirds of these items are moving to my new home.
First off, here's my Senior Thesis. If I recall correctly, it was entitled Creating Pandora's Box: Modern Science's Creation of Sexuality, and I received honors for it.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure the technology is still there for us to read it. If I cared enough, could I still access this? If I can, would anyone like a copy?
Ah, fun times. Once, Amber and I went to the John Fluevog Sample Sale, and she convinced me to buy these babies.
Granted, they were only $20. And if I ever date a Knicks, I'll need them.
Here we have what I'm guessing is about $20 worth - or one pair of John Fluevog Man Pumps - of defunct currencies. In here I see Francs, Guilder, Deustchmarks, and Pesetas.
Maybe this would make a nice base for a planter?

Bea, Pee, & Me
So I am packing up, optimistic that I will be moving in the next few weeks. As I busily fill up Amber's Fresh Direct boxes with 34 years' worth of Miscellany, I'm enjoying the things I find.
Today I found this newspaper clipping that Andy sent to me, apparently in August of 1998 as he road-tripped through Arizona on his way to Texas (the Family Circus Route, apparently).
Rest in Peace, Bea. You're still in our thoughts.
