"I couldn't understand a word Michael Caine said. I just waited for the gaps and then said my lines."

British people talk funny. Happy Birthday, Michael Caine!

Birthday Boy Beinecke Boffo

Today is special because it's my friend John's birthday. Things I like about John include: he's nice, he has the same name as my pop, and he spends his day with an X-acto knife trimming prints at the Beinecke Library, which is my favorite G-rated image source on the internets.

It's where I got the gorgeous Pearl Bailey images that are framed in my apartment, and it's where I found these gems - from the Carl van Vechten collection.

I loved Anais Nin at one point. I must have re-read Spy In The House Of Love a dozen times.

God Bless you, Carol Channing.
Ooh, and you too, Midge. I mean, Barbara Bel Geddes.

Tallulah Bankhead with a baby lion? Bring. It. On.

Art is great. I can't wait for my tour of the place!

On This Day In History

Remember last October 28th? I posted this pretty funny pic, if I do say so myself.

Anyway, it's David's birthday again! Since his last birthday, he visited NYC once for NYE and we had much fun buying brightly colored pants, suffering the heat of my new apartment (until Jeremy figured out how to turn off the radiator, bless him), ate nice food, and tussled with Zach. He visited once again after that, which was after I ate that bad burrito, but we STILL had a nice time eating a mild dinner and watching a Barbara Stanwyck movie. Aren't friends great?

Here's hoping he visits again soon. In the meantime, here's us c. 1994, celebrating all the loot we picked up at Graceland. God Bless us ALL !

Fruhliche Geburtstag To Me

Birthday, Frankfurt Book Fair style.

Fruhliches Geburtstag!

This nice German Owl would like to wish Kevin a happy birthday. Both the owl and I are very happy that Kevin got borned back in the day, and that we are now friends. Amen!

The Japanese Google The Darndest Things

Some mornings, I choose to reflect on the what's and why's of the Internet.

For instance, a few months back I posted what I thought was a rather innocuous post to celebrate my friend Jesse's birthday.

Lo and behold, it's received the most comments of anything I've ever done.

The comments are all more or less like this
And of course if you click on the poster's name, you get taken to a Japanese Porn website.

I get one or two new comments a day from these folks. Are they googling each other's Japanese words and then landing here? Or are they all googling the same keywords from my post, which to me don't say anything about Japanese porn?

The Internet, and Foreigners. Full of mystery. And probably, peas and vinegar.

A Special Day In Ambertown

Who has a membership in Awesome Club and a birthday today?

Nope, not Baby Zach From The Past.

I know! It's Amber!

What are some nice things about her? Let's see.

She's always nice to dinosaurs, both in my Tiemann Place apartment and at the outlet malls.

However, sometimes, she drinks too much.

Also, sometime we go to Museums and she gets Awkward.

Oh, and also, she can find out about memes WAY late. Like, last week she learned who Beyonce is.

The worstest? Sometimes, she says WICKED inappropriate things to me.

Scandal! Black Friday indeed!

But? We can still be BFFs. I just need to learn how to manage the needs for the special way in which she learns. She's never forgotten her keys again!

Anyway, this is the story of Amber's Birthday and how she is Special to me, and not in a shorty bus way. Well, not always.

Anyway, my favorite memory though is probably the time she danced with Pearl Bailey.

Happy Bday, Amber Buddy! I'm so glad you were borned so I could have all the Friendship.

I want to Birthday you like an Animal!

Winters' Tales

How do you celebrate what would be the 90th Birthday of a Two Time Academy Award Winner (four time nominee?).
Do you celebrate by doing your impression of her? Buy buying a doll of her? By writing this weird pretty song that talks about all her movie deaths?

Not this year, my friends! You dig and you dig in the youtube and you find this clip from a 1970s TV special featuring one time Academy Award Winner Cher (two time nominee). Marvel, as they take us through a romp through cinema's Golden Age. Cheers to the marginal Kate Bush reference too.

God Bless, us all.

Birthday! Puss!

Who has no thumbs and is six years old today?

That's right, this guy!

As everyone knows, Zach is the bestest.

At night, he curls up tight so he doesn't miss a thing, in case I decide to suddenly wake up at 2am for hallwalks or noms.

When we watch programs, he hovers over my shoulder enjoying both my company and Mrs. Fletcher's.

And most of all? Every now and then, he cuddles up, usually in those moments when Photobooth photography is flattering to only one of us.

Happy Birthday, little buddy!

Candy Everybody Wants

Now, today is David's birthday, but it's also the birthday of Sir Iggy Pop. Happy 63rd, James Osterberg!

The greatest thing he ever did was not have it in his ear before, but rather his 1990 duet "Candy" with Kate Pierson. Ms. Pierson is one of our national treasures, and just simply doesn't get used enough.

Those jerks at Virgin/EMI disabled embedding, but you can watch the video here. Please do click through, turn up your volume, and enjoy.

Truly, it's up there with "Islands in the Stream" and "It's So Easy" from Pete's Dragon.

Thanks Iggy, for the memories.

The Lost Honor of CRD & DSB

Apparently, in The Past, David B. and I were members of the Baader-Meinhof Gang.

Happy Birthday, David!

Celebrating A Birthday, Architecture Style

Today is a special day in that we celebrate Jonathan being borned.

His greatest quality is that he knows the importance of taking hygiene tips from kitty cats.

Many happy returns, Sir.

"Stuffed Ukeleles In My Shoes"

If I were Sir Stephen Sondheim, what would I want for my 80th birthday?

Elaine Stritch doing an Eartha Kitt impersonation about flubbed lyrics from "I'm Still Here."

Happy 80th, Steve-o.

92 Years Young

Happy Birthday to my Nana, turning 92 years old today.

Here she is with her great-grand-baby. Her mind isn't what it used to be, but when she connects, she really does.

Synchronicity Alert!

Jesse and I helpfully posed in front of this banner in San Francisco last month, in preparation for his birthday today!
