A Month of Gwendolyn, Ernest, & Boobs

So I was looking at what brought people here accidentally in January 2012. In addition to the usual hunts for Nureyev (I can't really be one of the top sites), sirotan, Tab Hunter, and ashera cats, there were some other bits and bobs.
Over 30 people googled either "Jennifer Runyon" or "Gwendolyn Pierce" or some variant. People sure love her. No way to tell if they were looking for her from the first version of Charles In Charge or the reboot.

Who was looking for "Amish Borgnine"? I sure hope you found this post, which combines both of these stars of screen.

Speaking of combining stars of screen, watch, out Lee Marvin:

A lot of people sure are looking for the boobs of the great dames I write about. Specifically:
  • grace jones breasts disney pics
  • kate bush boobs
  • katherine helmond breasts
  • liza minnelli boobs
  • mary tyler moore tits
  • stevie nicks bare breasts
  • tuesday weld boobs
Sorry bros, can't help you.

and also some random boobs searches:
  • large boobs wetsuit
  • boobs crochet pattern
I wonder if you could crochet a wet suit for large boobs. Or maybe make one for one of the afore-mentioned dames. Internet.

Oh, and someone googled this:
  • barbara eden five weeks in a balloon movie photos
Um, which lead me to this:

I had no idea. It's one of those all-star (defined broadly) cast romps popular at the time, I guess, like It's A Mad, Mad, Mad World or Poseidon Adventure. What? Five weeks in a balloon with Barbara Eden and Red Skelton. I guess.

Anyway, Happy Feb. The End.

From Boat To Boat

Isn't it nice that Shelley Winters and Ernest Borgnine got make up after all that fighting in The Poseidon Adventure? And on another boat, too!

Happy Sunday!

Murder, Amish Style

So last night I had some chums over for over-priced treacherous burritos and programs. What else is knew, you say?

Well, one thing that was new is that after we watched Honey West we put on a Murder, She Wrote.

Oh, what's NEW, you say? What's new is that on this particular Murder, She Wrote, Jessica was in Amish Country (which looked suspiciously like southern California). And then, there was a MURDER! One of the Amish killed another one...pitchfork style! Mrs. Fletcher got to the bottom of it (and no, it was not her wrongly-accused friend, nor was it frequent guest-star Gwendolyn Pierce).

Now, this reminded me very much of Violent Saturday, a lovely little Victor Mature/Lee Marvin movie I saw with some chums a few months back. The humdinger of Violent Saturday is that Ernest Borgnine plays an Amish fellow, who gets caught up between some bank robbers. True to its name, this movie is Violent, and takes place on a Saturday. And true to murder in the Amish-fashion, Ernie has to protect his family the only way he knows how...pitchfork-style!

And so - spoiler alert - here's a rather gripping scene from Violent Saturday. Enjoy!

In Kevin's immortal words: God Bless, Lee Marvin.

The Ballard Of The (Not) Sad Kaye

So I was at the NYPL the other day on the hunt for Ernest Borgnine's new memoir, Ernie, by Ernest Borgnine. There I am in the B section of Bio and Ernie isn't out yet, but I stumble upon Kaye Ballard's How I Lost 10 Pounds in 53 Years.

I really only knew Ms. Ballard from her Pepsodent commercials and often confused her with Martha Raye, but since Shelley Winters was in her index and there were pics of her with my pals Maurice Chevalier and Doris Day, I figured it was a go.

The book was fun and she had a lot to say about the early days of talking pictures, her friendships & costars, her fling with Marlon Brando, her role in the internal-plural-friendly The Mothers-In-Law, her part in one of the revivals of Follies, and her love of the gays.

Really though, I'll always remember her best for her tremendous dance scene with Sweetums Thog on the Muppets.

That Catered Affair

Last week I was using Google Image to find a cast picture of A Catered Affair, the new show on Broadway featuring Tony nominee John Schneider, and this little thing popped up - The Catered Affair. What a difference a definite article makes! A quick trip down the knuckerhole of Wikipedia (Nicholson Baker would be so proud!) gave me the 411.

In 1956 Sir Gore Vidal adapted the Paddy Chayefsky TV movie (which starred the original Wanda Sykes, Miss Thelma Ritter!) for the silver screen. This was almost three decades before his bestseller Myra Breckinridge was made into a film - and at least six decades before it makes sense. The plot? Academy Award winner Miss Bette Davis is married to Academy Award winner Mr. Ernest Borgnine - she's a hausfrau, he's a cab driver! They live in the Bronx and calamity ensues when they have only a weekend to plan the fancypants wedding for their daughter, Academy Award nominee Debbie Reynolds.

I am going to start a petition on Amazon so that this, my new favorite movie, will be released on DVD.

I should have known after he starred in Grand Hotel, The Musical! that John Schneider only trod the boards in shows with rich source material. Long live the Dukes!

Miss Shelley Winters

Whew. I sure am glad that Amber is back, because I was getting pretty wiped out. All this blogging, plus a day job!

I was saddened to remember that Miss Shelley Winters went up to Heaven two years ago this week. It was a sad day, indeed. I was reminded of this because her old nemesis Ernest Borgnine, is celebrating his 91st birthday today. Shelley should be so lucky.

If in fact one does cross the River Jordan on one's way to the afterlife, I'm sure Shelley made that crossing the best of anyone. No one has ever died as beautifully, and as wetly, as Miss Shelley Winters in so many of her films. In the water she's a very skinny lady.

After she got up there in years, her main job was to go on the Carson show and be a goof. One of my favorite thing to do at the "Museum" of Television & Radio is to watch old appearances of hers. Here she is having fun with Miss Annie Potts.

Rest in Peace Shelley.

Heaven's Birthday Cake

They must be having a joint birthday party up in Heaven today, with both Ethel Merman & Aaliyah blowing out the candles at God's Diva Table.

Other than the fact that they were both married to Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine, the two dames don't have much in common. Here's hoping they performed a lively duet at the party! Rest in Peace, ladies.
