Amen, Brothers

These guys really are amazing. I first discovered them when I saw Stormy Weather, starring my old pal Miss Lena Horne. I blogged about their amazing dance in that at the time, and then sort of forgot about them.

Last night during Spontaneity Club Amber and I put on Down Argentine Way, starring her favorite, Donna Meche, and my favorite Miss Charlotte Greenwood.

But really? No one can beat the Nicholas Brothers. Check this out.

The Game of LIFE

Here's something really cool I just discovered.

Google is digitizing all of LIFE Magazine's photo archives - as of now they're apparently 20% of the way there. Most of the pictures have never been published. It's an amazing archive.

Cosmic Dancer

What a special day! 118 years ago today, Miss Charlotte Greenwood was born. Charlotte Greenwood is up there with Zach and Bacon as one of my favorite things. She was 6 feet tall and as bendy as a rope.

I think my favorite CG Moment, as I call them, is in one of Esther Williams' multi-million dollar aquamusicals, Dangerous When Wet, when she's dancing with William Demerest. I also like in Moon Over Miami when she's dancing with Jack Haley.

Here she is in The Gang's All Here, teaching a young whippersnapper how to dance. Really, every time I watch her I'm in smiles. Happy Birthday, Charlotte!

Signatures, Style

I sure am grateful that Amber kept these home fires going while I was in Florida cavorting with co-workers. She did a great job and I enjoyed reading all the posts on my blackberry when I woke up hungover each morning from the courtesy bar.

One thing I did not do in Florida was search for a millionaire husband, like Betty Grable & co. did in Moon Over Miami. The plot is more or less the same as How To Marry A Millionaire, also with Grable, but this time we get less Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe and more of my favorite chum, Charlotte Greenwood. I just can't get enough of her. Amber's favorite costar in the movie was Donna Meche, but I sure like Charlotte.

Her she is cavorting with Jack Haley, aka the Tin Man. Her signature style is on full display. God Bless, Talent.

Mama Long Legs

This weekend I got to watch the awesome movie Dangerous When Wet. I chose it because I'm a big fan of multi-million dollar aquamusicals featuring Miss Esther Williams, but it turned out I was also enamored by Miss Charlotte Greenwood.

Greenwood was a ye olde time vaudevillian, and popped up as an old dame in a number of musicals, notably as Aunt Eller in Oklahoma. She was six feet tall and either was double-jointed or made of pisketti.

I sure like this number here with her & William Demarest. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
