Also? Animal Friendship

So it didn't end so well when the Hippos met the Croc. HOWEVER, here's a touching tale.

The quote:

"I slipped into the water, terrified of what might happen, and I swam up to this leopard seal. My legs were shaking and I had dry mouth. Right away she dropped the penguin. She came up to me and she opened her mouth … and her head is twice as wide as a grizzly bear’s head. She’s huge. She took my whole head and my camera inside her head and did this threat display. But then the most remarkable thing happen. She went off and got me a live penguin. She came up and she started to feed me a penguin. She kept letting these live penguins go and the penguin would shoot past me and she’d look disgusted as she go by me. She did this over and over."

The video:

It's kinda like when Zach drops Crinkle Mouse on my pillow. Kinda.

The Supremes vs. The Supremes

You know what happened On This Day In History?

This is the day that the 2000 Elections were decided by the Supreme Court. Yep, that's right. So remember back to Election Night this year? With the hooting and screaming and tears of joy and all that? And now think to today? That's how long it was.

Crazy Times.

Anyway, here's some other Supremes. I think I like these ones better.

Pooch Break!

This brave little buddy sure is a smarty. I can't remember if this move is from one of the Charlie's Angels movies or Mission Impossible or what, but color me impressed.

I love too how his little buddies watch on with great interest.

Der Hochschulemusikal

I've been bored to tears lately by all the op-ed pages and their "1968 this, 1968 that." So it's the 40th anniversary of everyone being dirty hippies. What else is new?
Well, something else happened in 1968, and that was Heißer Sommer, the East German "High School Musical." The movie stars the equivalents of Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens, and is about a bunch of boys and girls on their way to the Baltic Sea for summer lovin', and der hijinks they enjoy along the way.

There's a love triangle between two of the boys & one girl, which involves reciting Goethe to each other late night in a barn, and several lessons about not violating the spirit of the collective and exercising individual freedoms. Communism + Pop Songs = Fun Times!

Anyway, here they are singing & dancing about hitchhiking, which apparently was a fun thing to do back in the day. The dance moves are particularly inspiring.

Heisser Sommer, wie wonderbar!

Turning Japanese

So I got up this morning and Zach was fiddling about with my globe. They seemed to be engaged in a conversation, most likely about world travel, and definitely in Japanese. What's Zach up to? I can't wait to find out!
