Right Key, Wrong Hole Baby

Touched by an Angel indeed.

God Bless you to BITS, Miss Della Reese. God Bless you, to bits.

I Could Write A (Million) Book(s)

Have you played around with Google's Ngram yet? It's heaps of fun. You can search the 22 billion books that they have lovingly scanned, and learn lots of information about the occurrence of words throughout written history. Social Science!

For example, I was curious about who showed up in books more: Pearl Bailey, Shelley Winters, or Della Reese. Click on the images to embiggen them.

Go Shelley!

Also, which of the Golden Girls showed up the most in books? I think Betty White might be picking up a few extra points for her commonly-written last name, which is also a colour.

Here's a nice one I liked:
This one was interesting. I wonder if there's any causal relationship between the increase in occurrence of the first two words and that slight dip in the third? I may have to watch Rope again.

God Bless America and all its science!

"It Would Turn Into Sunshine"

Today is my last Monday at my current/soon-to-be-former job, and I resolve that not only am I going to do a great job of wrapping up loose ends there, but I'm going to be a better blogger this week too.

Remember when I posted this clip from Harlem Nights?

Now, I'm as big a fan of Della Reese as anyone I know, but even I think Eddie Murphy was a tad hyperbolic in his Jet Magazine interview back in November 1989.

Here's the money line:

But really, who am I to say? I have to admit, her line has made it into my lexicon. CRD Oscars for all.

Baby Let's Do It One More Time

Some people? They quit jobs like it's going out of style. I envy them.

Me? I quit once every 6 or 7 years. This week has been a drain.

In honor of it being Saturday and me and Zach sleeping in until almost 10, here's Miss Della Reese doing my all time favorite song.

Sunday Sunshine!

Where did Della Reese learn such dirty words?

Let's Just Do It One More Time

So a few weekends ago I had the pleasure of driving 435 miles round trip to attend my nephew's first birthday party.

This was made extra fun by the stress my mom caused me by telling me the trip would be 8 hours each way, but in truth the whole excursion was about 12 hours total, including the party time, which involved at least a dozen babies, including the one related to me. Oh, and of course the snow storm was awesome too.

Most awesome? I listened to Miss Della Reese the entire way there and back. I am sorry no one was there to witness me deftly singing along, adding harmonies, fill, and inbetween song banter.

In conclusion, if you put me in a Chevy Aveo Or Simillar, give me a Large Dunkin Donuts Coffee and a singing dame, you're in for a good time.

Here's Della in an early music video. Happy Pre-Christmas.

How Many Dames Does It Take?

Can you imagine, in alphabetical order, Carol Channing, Ethel Merman, Ann Miller, and Miss Della Reese in one show?

There hasn't been this much hamminess on stage since Charlotte's Web.

God Bless, Love Boat.
