I simply don't understand the technology. The Past was a confusing time.
Can anyone explain to me what Jean Harlow was doing? Why the pneumatic tube? Is this a Cuba thing?

I need more context. Can you post a longer clip?
Maybe what's happening is that Mr. Stanhope (played by whom?) checked in at the front desk (off camera), and the desk clerk then sent his registration information to the hotel switchboard (via a pneumatic tube) so that they would have the information (room number, etc.) when people (like Harlow) call for him.
Jean Harlow is trying to call her boss, Clark "Mr. Stanhope" Gable. He's in Havana, which might be an important clue. And his wife is Myrna "Mrs. Stanhope" Loy, which might be a clue too.
ALH, am I leaving anything out?
I still don't get it. Did the airport send a tube message to the hotel?

I'm not sure a longer clip would help.
