Births-Day

It's that day of the year again! We at Internals Plural are very happy to wish Miss Doris Day, nee Doris Mary Anne von Kappelhoff, many happy returns.

Last year on her birthday I wished her a good one, and that's been one of my most viewed pages. People sure like to google her to see what the reclusive lady looks like nowadays.

I'm happy to remember her with all her vim and zest, especially in this photo below, which Vanity Fair ran a few years ago - fun times.

I also like to remember her from the time she impersonated a pole dancer, for some zany misadventure on the Doris Day Show. Here she is, Miss Peanut Brittle:

And of course, here she is rocking some Cole Porter in Lullaby of Broadway.

Happy 86th, Miss Day!

Of Gaps, Prawns, Worms, & Dogs

Recently, Kevin and Amber went to San Francisco to visit their roost. Kevin's eagle eye (or goose eye?) spotted this sign in the BART system. I don't think they really want you to watch the gap quite this closely.

Then I got to thinking about some of the other random signs still kicking around my jpg files.

This sure made me giggle in South Africa. What exactly is verboten? Is one not allowed to pump prawns and worms? Or are prawns and worms not allowed to pump each other? What does pump mean in this context? I'm glad I don't know.

I liked this one, also from a beach, this time in Australia. They are totally not kidding about dogs being prohibited, apparently.
Signs. Sigh.

Pop Plus Jazz

I love crossovers. I like when Willie Nelson sings jazz standards, I like when Shirley Bassey covers Pink, I even liked Queen Latifah's Jazz album.

I'm not yet sure how I feel about this news item though. And I'm pretty sure it's not an April Fool's Joke.

Iggy Pop to release jazz album inspired by French novel

After years as a legendary punk icon, Pop has decided to ditch the blistering guitars for a quieter, more jazzy sound. "At one point, I just got sick of idiot thugs with guitars banging out crappy music," the long-haired rocker said.

Last year Pop was tapped to provide the music for a documentary about controversial French author Michel Houellebecq's efforts to create a film based on his book
The Possibility Of An Island (La Possibilité d'une Ile). Pop, who apparently felt a deep-rooted connection with the book, agreed and began work on the music for Last Words.

Preliminaires features seven songs inspired by France, the book and New Orleans jazz.

I'll make my final decision on or about May 18 when the album is released. Based on the opening lyric to the first song, I'm not sure this is one Annie Ross will be covering anytime soon.

I got a smelly rear
I got a dirty nose
I don't want no shoes
I don't want no clothes

Here's the man himself talking about the record.

Thanks Ig!

The Breakfast Dub

Recently, Seth emailed me this link. I do not understand, even with the pop ups.

It somehow seems appropriate for a Monday morning though.

If you're feeling adventurous, click here to see Seth sing it in Icelandic. Almost makes more sense this way.

One Twee Over The Line

Everything that rides my tail about those smug, overly-soundtracked indie movies is summed up in one minute and forty-seven seconds.

Hee hee. It's funny because it's true.
