Oh? Canada?

Canada is awesome, as I may or may not have said before. Mostly I like it because I like this part of my job and my coworkers, but also because it's fun to visit.

One fun thing about Canada is all the differences between it and America.

Some times the differences are subtle, like how their Baskin Robbins has 31 flavours, and you can pick one of them to be your favourite. When traveling to Canada, pack your extra U's.

They also seem to have some sort of Toilet Rebate. I don't know what this means.

Back to the food thing, their Doritos have funny flavour names. It was weird enough to try Sweet Chili Heat, but to also call it Piment Infernal! gave me the giggles.

And to close on the Ice Cream theme, the giggliest part of them all is what they call their Mister Softees. Hee hee, Master Soft & Delight!

Thanks Canada, for all the swell times!

Birthday, She Wrote

It sure is good to be back from Canada. God Bless America! I have big thanks in my heart for Amber for keeping things fresh around here.

And now, back to business. Today we wish Miss Angela Lansbury a very happy birthday. I think I first knew her from Bedknobs & Broomsticks, and then from 1987 through 2006 she had the #1 Drama on television, in which she played an old busybody in Maine with 200 nieces and nephews scattered around the globe, whose friends & acquaintances always seemed to get murdered.

Nowadays, I think I like her best as the cockney maid in Gaslight, or the devious mother of them all in Manchurian Candidate.

Meantime, here she is with her bosom buddy Bea Arthur singing about friendship. It's kind of how I feel about Amber, guest-blogger and buddy extraordinaire.

Amber & Arrivals

CRD is due in any minute now, which is wicked exciting because I have sure missed him while he has been away. He left me a message last night saying that he was having a blast: his friend with the sick sense of humor was keeping him in stitches even though he had been stung by a Canadian bee in the hotel. Good times!

Even though it sounds like he is having an amazing northern adventure, it is important to me that he comes home because, as you can see in this photo taken by Jimmy, he is a critical member of my circle of friends-- clockwise, he is the tallest. So is Kevin, but he is not pictured here.

Amber & Mounties

Hi!

It's me, ALH the guest blogger. Chris is getting another stamp on his passport at the borders to the great land to our north, Canada.

Last night, he sampled Canadian consumerism at what they call a "mall." Everything was super expensive there, even with the current conversion rates between the Loon and the Buck.

Today, he is going to see this documentary about Canada's heyday.

My money is on the Atomic Invaders.

I hope he hurries home. I am bored without him.

Sir Owl, Knight Owl

Sunday nights are the worst. What happens is, you go out with your friends on Saturdays and drink beers and carouse, then on Sundays you sleep in just a little bit too late. No matter what you do the rest of the day: in my case yesterday this included Sweeping, Mopping, watching Meet The Press, some light shopping (2 new CDs, milk), having a chum over for Thai food and Kath & Kim, drinking half a bottle of wine - there's no falling asleep before midnight. Or in my case last night, 3am.

I really did try to sleep. I got into bed around 11, turned off the lights, and all seemed well for about 30 minutes. Yet, I was still wide awake. I'll read a few pages of Robert Wagner's memoirs, I thought. When I last left them, he & Natalie Wood were getting married for the second time.

Well, by the time it was lights out again at 3am, much had happened since that fateful boat ride with Christopher "Chris" Walken, including Hart To Hart, marriage to Jill St. John, and Austin Powers.

So now here I am getting ready for work all bloodshot and drowsy. And in a few hours, I hop on a plane for Canada. Thank God I'm not flying it!

Sweet dreams.

The Golden One & That One

I try not be political, really.

But I love it when our Golden Girls talk dirty. Here's Betty White pretending to be a McCain speechwriter on the Craig Ferguson show.
