Miss Millie

Now, keen readers might remember Miss Millie from previous posts - especially when I gave her a beautiful animal print dress way back when.

So it turns out babies grow, and if you give them an outfit sometimes it's smart for it to be too big, because eventually it'll fit them and you'll get a fun picture in the mail one day.

Here she is at some little girl birthday party - as the story goes, all the other little girls were in pink frilly things, but not Miss Millie - I'm sure she stole the show in her NYC high fashions.

Her mum, Shelley, is a dear friend, and I hope I can visit them soon, since I'm clearly not very good at keeping up friendships via email. Epistolary is not my middle name. It's Rene.

Familial Resemblance, Baby-Style

Babies, Babies, Babies.

It's pretty clear to me that the fella percolating in my sister's tum is related to me by blood.

Anyway, now is as good a time as any to dip once more into the Past. We peeked at my 4th grade class photo already, let's see how well we do with finding me in 3rd grade. Hint: my nose is pretty similar to my nephew's...

Good-Minton

How I miss, miss, miss Vacation.

One great thing about Vacation was how good Sarah & I got at Badminton. Part of the reason we got so good was on account of these Sports Authority Headbands we got to intimidate our opponents.

Watch out, China!

The Signs of My Times

While I'm not terribly excited to be back here, NYC sure is a good place to see interesting signs.

I saw this helpfully-labeled truck just the other day. I wonder if there was any doubt?

This sign is in Amber's laundromat. She breaks the rules sometimes about bringing food into the laundromat, let's hope she doesn't break this one.

I have no idea what this one means. I think it means "You are at Kevin and Diana's subway stop. Happy New Year."

And on my way past Viktor's Cuban Cafe on 51st Street, I noticed that some lolcat must have written their sign for them.

Signs.

Caprice-ush-ness

So last night Amber and I watched Caprice, Doris Day's 1967 flick with Sir Richard Harris.

Now, I picked the movie out of the masses at the NYPL because the cover, as depicted above, screamed out to me. It promised to be a zingy mix of Alias & With Six You Get Eggroll, and how could that possibly go wrong?

Now, to be sure, this is as promised my new favorite movie. However, it wasn't until after we had watched all 98 minutes and had started in on the bonus features that we discovered it was in fact a spy spoof. The fact that Doris & Sir Richard were spies looking for the secret formula for waterproof hairspray? We weren't in on the joke.

Lesson learned. Sometimes, you DO want to watch the bonus content first.

A Cuppa Ambition

The only way to find some mirth this AM as I prepare to go back to work from vacation is to find a precedent through Art of how to handle the day to come.

Penultimation, Cape Cod Style

Today is our last full day, here on the Estate. Rather than wallow in pity about it, I decided to wake up early to maximize the day.

Some of my favorite vacation things:

* Not Shaving
* Coffee & Crossword
* Friendship
* Badminton
* Ice Cream
* Cocktail Hour is 4pm (3pm weekends!)
* Fish & Chips
* Bike Rides
* Beach
* The off-brand Scrabble game we found in the closet, "Lookee"

I've already started the Not Shaving Part for today, so now it's time to run off and do the rest.
